IRAQ ROOM RENOVATION IN 21 SECONDS

For the past week I have been fixing up my room. It started out with a Hawaiian theme with paper stuck to all of the walls. I saw the opportunity to document my mini extreme makeover. This is my room renovation in 21 seconds. ENJOY!

WATER AND TREES

I was told before I came here that you will learn to appreciate the water, trees, and birds that are on this base. Other bases are not as fortunate.

DO YOUR LAUNDRY

This is where I pick up my laundry. You drop it off and it is ready the next day folded and all. Although lately it is taking 4 days due to the water conservation order.

FALLUAH DENTAL CLINIC

Here is a pic of our dental clinic. It's the double wide I've always dreamed of. My CDR is from Minnesota so she feels right at home, hehe.

MORE TO COME...

Here is a pic of the dental team we took over for. Later I will write more about life on Fallujah. It is late at night and some huge artillery rounds are going off. This is the first time. The building shook. Something must be happening outside the wire......

TEMPERATURE

IED AWARENESS

In addition to going to the range, we had a class on IED's. We learned the basic components and how to recognize them.

HOME ON THE RANGE

Soon after we arrived we headed to the range to get some practice in.

WELCOME TO FALLUJAH

After a convoy which seemed to take forever in the cold weather, this was the scene when we rolled up to the clinic. The old crew was cheering so loud. They were anxiously awaiting our arrival. They were more than happy to unload our bags and carry our things. The sooner we were settled the sooner they got to get out of here.

FINALLY IN IRAQ

First sunset on Iraq soil.

We got to spend another few hours in these berthing spaces.

In TQ, Commander wanted a picture. I took a nice head shot with the sunset, but she was not happy. She wanted to show off her weapon.

Leaving the plane.

Unloading...

The plane was not the smoothest ride, but is was an experience. We actually made a stop in Al Asad to drop some people off.

Boarding the plane!

Finally the plane is in sight!

LEAVING KUWAIT.....NOT!.....OK LET'S GO!

Finally on the way to the flightline!

Mount up we're heading out. As we got ready to go our person in charge came in and I could tell by the look on her face that the news was not good. She called out a list of names to come foward. Of course mine was one of them. She said that we were bumped from the flight because the Air Force had some of there own people that needed our seats. Needless to say we got to stay around for another 8 hours.

Another day of holding....

Rank has its privileges, just not my rank. I found out later that Commander had bedding, carpet, and a closet. I think I even saw a maid go in there in the AM.

Here is a pic of my room. The good news was we now had a mattress and not a cot. The even better news was that our bags were already on the palette and we would not have access to them. Perfect! The dentist was stuck without a toothbrush. Yes I got the top bunk! Not by choice. It left about 8 inches of space between my face and the tent.

Our plane was supposed to leave, then a sandstorm came and we were stuck. They kept telling us we'll try to fly later and later until eventually they had to provide a room for us since we could not go back to our last stop.

I got caught. I was listening to my Ipod with my neck gator pulled over my face to keep warm. The concrete was pretty hard and cold.

Much of the time was passed by catching up on some Z's.

Leaving Kuwait is the hurry up and wait game. We were moved into the holding tent where we were isolated while we waited for a plane.

LIFE IN KUWAIT

4 meals a day if you dare!

The Golden Arches are everywhere!

Our home for a few days.

It was said that Kuwait was like being on the moon .

Working party unloading the bags.

BY AIR

We woke up to this flying over Iraq.

For those Moulin Rouge fans. I did not have a drink!

At each stop all of the phones were filled.

Over the Atlantic Ocean the pilot go ton the radio and made an announcement. He said "Um.....we have a problem. We were not able to fly high enough so we burned a lot of fuel. We are not going to have enough to reach our destination." After a long pause by the pilot and all the thoughts of plunging into the Atlantic like in Cast Away, he said we would be diverted to another airport.

A shot from the airport.

Our first stop in the states. I thought it would be nice to take a group picture at each of our stops, but you'll soon see how long that idea lasted.
